Speech Therapy at Home Help for Homeschool Moms teaching their children to say R Blends clearly
You watch YouTube videos on “How to say the R sound,” you download all sorts of worksheets with R words” but you wonder how it’s going to help when everything is pieced together from a million different bits and pieces.
Get a good foundation for practice that is based on what speech therapy that works looks like in one done for you package. You can keep searching or you can get going and get done – you need a resource that can help you get started and back to real life.
Check out Brilliant R Blends, a video curriculum that helps homeschoolers practice speech therapy at home.
❌ Difficulty saying the R sound in blends like "BRight, FRiend, DReam, and TReat?
R sounds like W, turning “friend" into "fwend." It can make your child hard to understand and they might be a little frustrated or embarrassed.
❌ Trouble finding help?
Searching for videos, books, downloads trying to get more support that you can use at home. Whether you have speech therapy or not, you might be on your own at home and the overwhelm is hard. There's tons of worksheets, but they don't give you enough repetition to make a difference and they mix all the blends together (which can be more difficult for learning!)
❌ Your child can say the words clearly when asked to repeat them, but not in sentences?
The mind is willing but the body is…. Weak? This can be where frustration hits for your child. If they try R flashcard after R flashcard and they are going nowhere fast, it can make it hard to want to practice at home.
❌ You’ve been to speech therapy for R Blends for a LONG time?
You have a great SLP, but the weekly sessions just aren’t enough. You’d love to work in between therapy sessions using speech therapy techniques and you want to know how to fix what might be missing. They can say other Rs but the blends have you feeling stuck.
If yes, and you want something different - join me, and let’s talk about how to untangle R blends and help your child move on to more important things, like reading, science, and being a kid!
Hi there -
I’m Amanda and I'm a homeschool grad, mom of 4, and speech language pathologist.
I was told in school that the muscles of the mouth weren’t to blame when a child couldn’t say sounds clearly and told by others that children were just "lazy talkers."
Yup. On one hand if a child had difficulty making the R sound (or any other sound for that matter) it was the brain’s full responsibility. The mouth didn’t have anything to do with it. But on the other hand, folks were saying if a child just tried hard enough, the sounds would come.
But after working with hundreds of children (I lost count after 500 or so!) I've learned that often it's a mix of "mouth" and how the brain understands and "codes" sounds as the source of the issues. I see it with my own 4 sweet babies with their own speech and language needs they have had! I've learned stellar strategies from cutting edge researchers for fixing sounds from the inside out (supporting that beautiful brain) and some muscle minded techniques for the mouth that I love to put together like the eclectic homeschooler I am.
So… I started putting these things together and loved the results in my private practice, training parents to work R from start to finish with the methods I use in sessions, so we get more progress in between. And man, when you give a great parent good tools, things happen!
I knew I wanted to share this information with other moms. I can only help so many moms one on one in therapy and I knew it could be handy to have practice materials for my speech therapy families ready to go with their individualized plans.
There are great resources out there for speech language pathologists, but there was so little available built for parents to use at home. It’s an expectation that everyone either has access to a provider OR their sweet speech language pathologist has the knowledge and TIME to share it. That you can just download a worksheet and that will be enough (it isn't) without the understanding of how to teach the mouth what to do, how to teach the brain to truly listen and code the sound, how to break the habit of "w" for "r," and how to do it step by step, start to finish with confidence, with success!
I couldn’t find a “help” like that. So I decided to create it.
For all the moms that are wondering why sounds are so hard and want to support their child at home too.
