When my "R" kiddo ask for "ceweal" for breakfast, I know what it really means as I'm sure you do. But as parents, we know there comes a time when sounds should sound good. A time when a child will speak clearly. It can impact both clarity and confidence when an R just isn't growing on its own.
When you go looking online for help, there are tons of snazzy options to help your child speak clearly, but there just doesn't seem to be much out there for parents, that's really "the whole enchilada."
Have you ever scrolled through speech therapy tutorials on YouTube, googled searched giant wordlists, and been overwhelmed with all the tiny little unrelated pieces? It's kinda overwhelming. And the big stuff can be filled with professional jargon, because it's meant for speech language pathologists!
Because of that, I'm glad to be both a homeschool mom and speech language pathologist. It's been really handy in my house to know some things about teaching clear sounds (Especially R...). I know how to guide my child through her R journey. SLP me knew the process and mom me knew to go slow for her sensitive heart. Both were important. But while you've got the parent angle, you may not have the SLP side.
Can I share the process part with you?
I’m thrilled to invite you on an R clarity adventure with live lessons in a step by step course. I'm calling it The R Clarity Roadmap, because the goal is to make practice at home simpler, like following your map app instead of directions from 5 different strangers.
It's my hope to give you the tools you need to make practice at home straightforward and no-prep.
Though it's not meant to be a replacement for speech therapy and I can't give individual guidance (like how to teach your specific child on xyz), I can teach you how I teach R in therapy sessions with my 1:1 speech therapy families and in my own home. I can share stories of similar situations, my thought process, what worked, and what didn't! After working with over 600 sweet speech friends, I've seen some things!
Learn how a speech language pathologist and homeschool mom teaches a crispy clear R sound from the ground up with a great group of homeschool mommas like you!
